East Coast Ski Season Starts Taking Shape as Camelback And Blue Mountain Resorts Fire Up Snowmaking Systems
Two Pocono Powerhouses Take Advantage of Cooler Temps to Prep for Early Opening
WHAT:
Winter has arrived early in the Pocono Mountains, and two of the region's premier ski destinations - Camelback Resort and Blue Mountain Resort - are wasting no time taking advantage of the season's first stretch of sustained cold. Both resorts have ramped up aggressive snowmaking operations in anticipation of an early start to the 2025/26 ski season.
At Camelback Resort in Tannersville, 100 snow guns are running nonstop through Wednesday, blanketing Sunbowl and Nile Mile trails in fresh snow as temperatures dip into ideal snowmaking range. The resort's enhanced system includes new high-pressure feed and summit supply lines powering Margie's Delight and Sullivan trails, 32 HKD Klik auto hydrants, and 32 HKD Impulse stick guns for faster, more consistent snow coverage.
Meanwhile, Blue Mountain Resort in Palmerton - known for typically being the first ski resort to open in the Poconos - began snowmaking last night with over 160 snow guns across 11 trails, including Vista, Paradise and Freefall . The resort has introduced two TechnoAlpin TT10 tower-mounted fan guns, two mobile TR10 fan guns, and new underground piping upgrades to boost water flow and efficiency. Blue Mountain also recently upgraded 380 trail lights to energy-efficient LEDs, illuminating popular runs like Challenge, Razor's Edge, and Dreamweaver for an enhanced night-skiing experience.
WHEN:
- Camelback Resort snowmaking in progress now through Wednesday, November 12
- Blue Mountain Resort snowmaking in progress now through Wednesday, November 12
WHY IT MATTERS:
While many East Coast resorts are still waiting for consistent cold, Camelback and Blue Mountain are leading the charge, taking advantage of prime snowmaking windows to lay down a strong early-season base. Together, the two resorts are signaling an early start to winter in the Poconos and giving snow enthusiasts a reason to dust off their skis and boards.
QUOTES:
"When temperatures drop, we're ready to move - and this week's weather is perfect for snowmaking," said Jason Bays, vice president and general manager at Camelback Resort. "Our new upgrades are allowing us to cover more terrain, faster, so we're set up for a fantastic season ahead."
"Being first on the mountain each winter is something our team takes pride in," added Ashley Seier, director of marketing at Blue Mountain Resort. "With improved snowmaking and night-skiing enhancements, we're ready to deliver an even better experience for our guests this season."
